about

On June 3rd, the Danish noise pop duo The Oceans are releasing the second single ‘Young & High’ from their upcoming debut album. With a potent energy, the two lead singers meet in a unison duet and revive the ferocity of their youth - personified in the story of a woman.

With a stubborn guitar riff, ‘Young & High’ kicks off with a bang. An equally insistent hihat suit soon follows, and together they form the driving force in the new high-energy single from The Oceans.

“We actually thought we were done with the upcoming album. But we felt like we were missing a link to our previous songs - a track that just kicks on at full speed, and suddenly ‘Young & High’ came to us”, says Dan Joe - one half of the duo.

'Young & High' is the only track from the upcoming debut album that the duo has produced themselves, and that is probably the reason why the production is more reminiscent of their previous releases, which have enjoyed coverage in various music magazines and lots of airplay on Danish radio.

Feeling 20 again
"She's young with an urge to fly", the duo sings about the young woman who - according to the band itself - personifies the revival of their own youths. “For a little while, we feel 20 years old again when we play it. No concerns about jobs, the everyday race and what else belongs to adult life", says the other half of the band Linus Valdemar.

"It portrays several different young women we have met through life - gathered in one woman”, Dan Joe elaborates and continues: “A free soul who is young and doesn’t worry about everything like us.”

A secret weapon
On ‘Young & High’, the voices of the two lead singers merge into a unison harmony, emphasizing that there is truly something about the holistic idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Together, Dan Joe’s and Linus Valdemar's voices form a secret weapon that breaks the boundaries of time and space when, for 3 minutes and 55 seconds, they invite you to let go of your worries and enjoy the sweet taste of freedom - just like the woman in the song, or like the man, who jumps off his bike and shuffles in the middle of the path in the lyric video that comes along with the song.

Revive your youth for a while in the company of The Oceans when they release ‘Young & High’ on Celebration Records on June 3rd.

lyrics

Up Down
She’s spinning around’n’around
High low
About to run away from home

Some day soon she’s
Just about to peak
Keeps on going
She’ll find what she seeks

She’s young
And on a high
The stars will lead her through the night
She’s young
With an urge to fly
She feels like she’ll never die

In & out
No shadow of doubt
Toss & turn
She doesn’t have any more concerns

She’s so vivid
Always on the run
No regrets
She’ll follow the Sun

She’s young
And on a high
The stars will lead her through the night
She’s young
With an urge to fly
She feels like she’ll never die

The Oceans Copenhagen, Denmark

Riotous guitars, insistent beats, and captivating melodies: this is the essence of The Oceans. Formed in 2014 by Copenhagen multi-instrumentalists Dan Joe & Linus Valdemar, the duo sounds like their city feels – a pulsing, paradoxical sea of chaos, noise, and serenity. ... more
